These new technologies will also enable you to remotely control your house and its appliances. Very soon, most light bulbs, household appliances (like refrigerators, stoves, ovens, thermostats, washers and dryers) will be factory delivered already fitted with sensors and microchips to allow remote access control. The commercials you have seen on TV where the people are using remote access to control every aspect of their home is not in the future, it is here and now! Most of the wi-fi microchips being shipped now are no longer for computers, tablets or smart phones, they are for household appliances. Local networks using M2M, Bluetooth BLE, Zigbee, UWB and NFC are on the rise and expanding rapidly.
Cisco predicts that the “connected devices” industry will be generating $14.4 Trillion per year (yes, trillion with a T!) by 2022. This wild expansion will come as the result of dramatic improvements in asset utilization, employee productivity, supply chain efficiency, customer experience and innovation.
Of course, there will always be some who use their smart phone primarily as a gaming arcade. Facebook and other social media will continue their rapid expansion via smart phones. There is no foreseeable end to texting or actually using the thing for its intended purpose of being a PHONE! Imagine that, actually using your smart phone as a phone, wonders never cease. This is a world of ever accelerating technology, some of it good and some of it bad, just like everything else. Smart phones come down on the good side.
