SEO SOS #16 - Directory Listings

There are several directories that you can also add your links to which will give you a certain amount of exposure.  One of the easiest and most reasonably priced linking websites is Directory ListingStrongest Links (http://www.strongestlinks.com ) and offers a free 30-day trial period with full functionality.  This website will give you an updated list of directories, the price they charge (if any) and how valuable the directory is as shown by various statistics.

Another feature of Strongest Links is the ability to do a search on particular keywords to locate potential linking partners, format a letter requesting a link and tracking the responses to your requests.  For locating and establishing link partners, this program is very valuable.  It does not automatically add the links to your page like Link Metro, but does a great job of searching for partners.

Strongest Links also provides a good list of forums where you can join and post responses to forum discussions.  Why would you want to do this?  Because when you sign off on your forum posting, you can place a link back to your site.  You will, of course, want to make your posting to the forum meaningful or you run the risk of being flamed when it becomes obvious that you are just using the forum to create a link back to your site.

Finally, Strongest Links gives you a list of Newsletters that might be a focus for your online advertising.  This will give you a source of potential advertising for your website.  It is best, of course, if you have a specific product or special to offer that leads the responder to a landing or sales page.

This website is $9.95/month and is probably well worth the money considering the many facets of information offered.

For other directories, use a Google search where you list your industry and the word directory.  You can then check out the search results.  For example, if you want to find directories related to mediation, place the words, mediation directory, in the search box at Google.  The search results are over 1,000,000 pages.  Of course, not all million are unique or necessarily relevant.  But what a great place to start.  This is a free method of finding directories to list your website.  Some of the websites you discover may request that you pay either a one-time or annual fee. Only you can determine whether the price is worth it.

The effort you make to get your website listed on the Internet will give you back like results.  Spend a lot of time and you'll see your page rank increase and traffic begin to flow your direction. But we all know that time is a precious commodity.  Depending on how much time you have, sometimes using a tool like Stongest Links (and there are others as well) may very well be worth the expenditure.
